About the Manistique Area

Manistique sits on the shores of magnificent Lake Michigan, with miles of rolling dunes and sparkling water. The residents here feel lucky to be surrounded by such beauty day after day. There is plenty of public beach to go swimming on, and our beaches are some of the cleanest around. Lake Michigan provides a beautiful backdrop for the pleasant community of Manistique.

The Manistique Marina is a pretty spot to visit and a nice place to fish. The marina has plenty of parking and also boasts a playground for the kids.
We have a charming downtown area with many shops and a small, lighted park at the end of the street.
The Manistique River winds through town, under US-2 Highway, and out into Lake Michigan.

The Manistique Water Tower and the Siphon Bridge are historical sites as you travel through town. The Siphon Bridge is part of the main road through town, and is one of the few bridges in the world where the water level rises higher than the road.
Big Springs, also known as Kitch-iti-kipi from legends of the Chippewa, is located in Palms Book State Park, near Indian Lake.  Visitors can use the self guiding raft to go across the lake and see through the crystal clear water to the bottom 40 feet below.
In addition to Lake Michigan, Manistique is also surrounded by many inland lakes that are popular for swimming, fishing, and recreation. The two lakes pictured here, Dodge Lake on the left and Indian Lake on the right, are both all-sports lakes. Indian Lake is the largest, about 8400 acres, and features Indian Lake State Park on one end of the lake and Palms Book State Park on the other end, both providing public access beaches and picnic areas, as well as public boat launches. Dodge lake also has a public boat launch and swimming area, as do many of the smaller inland lakes around Manistique.
